A seasoned maritime lawyer with over a decade of experience spanning major incident management, cargo litigation, P&I communications, and international maritime policy at the highest levels of the shipping industry.
Aishwarye Dubey is a seasoned maritime lawyer and advocate who has built a distinguished practice at the intersection of corporate shipping, high-stakes incident management, and international maritime policy. He currently serves in a dual capacity as Maritime Lawyer & Advisor at A.P. Møller Maersk (Mumbai) and as Principal Associate at Lardner North & Co. (Kochi) — two of the most consequential roles in the Indian maritime legal landscape.
At Maersk, Aishwarye handles major incident management across the fleet — including ship collisions, onboard cargo fires, and the emerging frontier of EV cargo fire litigation. He leads evidence collection and cause investigation for high-stakes incidents, manages all legal processes arising from vessel damage (hull & machinery), cargo claims, and crew claims including death and disability, and represents the company in communications with P&I Clubs, external legal experts, and High Net-Worth Clients.
At Lardner North & Co., his practice encompasses the full spectrum of maritime commercial law: demurrage and detention claims, damaged cargo, container loss and theft, marine insurance recovery (H&M and P&I), general average declarations, and document review across Oil & Gas commercial contracts, SCoTA agreements, charterparties, Bills of Lading, Bank Guarantees, and Letters of Indemnity. He has successfully represented Oil & Gas energy companies, ship owners, ship operators, and charterers in commercial legal negotiations and international mediations.
“Maritime law is not just a domain of practice — it is the legal backbone of global trade. Every ship that sails, every cargo that moves, every seafarer that works — they all depend on the integrity of this legal framework.”
Prior to entering private practice, Aishwarye served as Associate Fellow at the National Maritime Foundation (New Delhi, 2020–2021), where he was engaged in institutional consultations with NITI Aayog, the Ministry of External Affairs, and the Ministry of Defence on India’s national maritime policy agenda. He drafted research reports for the Indian Navy on international maritime law issues and prepared review and deliberation reports on the draft Indian Ports Bill 2020, the draft Merchant Shipping Act 2020, and Maritime India Vision 2030. He also participated as a Resource Person in Track 1.5 diplomatic ventures with government officials of ASEAN and West Asian countries, and helped organise the Indo-Pacific Regional Dialogue (IPRD) 2021 — the apex strategic dialogue platform of the Indian Navy.
